  • This 2-Day Bay of Islands Small Group Tour from Auckland was launched in November 2024 and is now taking bookings for the 2025/26 season via Retreats Abroad. Operated by one of New Zealand’s most highly rated small group tour providers, the experience features expert local guides, engaging and insightful commentary and thoughtful surprises that make the journey truly memorable.
  • In December 2024, after a 3-month closure, the Tāne Mahuta Walk reopened with a formally blessed new raised boardwalk, bridge, and viewing platform to protect the tree from kauri dieback. Tāne Mahuta now offers a more accessible and richer guest experience thanks to the recent infrastructure upgrades and conservation initiatives. Including this iconic stop on your 2-day tour adds meaningful depth, connecting guests with Northland’s ancient forest, Māori heritage and environmental responsibility.
  • In 2025, the Kauri Museum (also part of the 2-Day Bay of Islands Tour itinerary) launched an immersive Forest Walkway inside the main hall. This was designed to recreate the Jurassic-era kauri forest with light, sound and visuals, further connecting visitors with Tāne Mahuta and the creation story.

What is the Bay of Islands Cruise like?

You’ll enjoy a scenic Hole in the Rock cruise, which explores the beautiful Bay of Islands.

The cruise runs for 4.5 hours, taking your on a scenic journey through the Bay of Islands and along the Cape Brett Peninsula.

Expect views of remote islands, marine wildlife (often dolphins) and the chance to cruise through the iconic rock formation – weather permitting.

Are meals included?

Meals are not included, but there are stops at recommended local eateries and plenty of free time to dine at your own pace. Accommodation includes access to nearby restaurants and cafés.

The tour departs from central Auckland, with hotel pick-up options available. You’ll return to Auckland on the evening of Day 2, dropped off at your original pick-up point.
